| | "During the past five years, there has been a proliferation of legislation that has led to the introduction of REITs to a number of key markets (i.e. Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and France) and created a global market valued in excess of US$ 500 billion. A significant amount of the global capital invested in listed real estate is now held in REITs. Furthermore, in a number of the markets, REITs have largely outperformed property companies. The first regional exchange to issue enabling regulations will be a magnet for those who wish to establish regional REITs." | | | | The World In 2003 Nakheel set out to create a global landmark and Dubai’s most iconic address. The World was a bold and ambitious vision of man-made islands located 4 km off the coast of Dubai. Once complete, The World will offer the ultimate in island lifestyle with luxurious estate homes, idyllic resorts, marinas and leisure developments. All 300 islands will only be accessible by marine or air transport. Two mainland marinas will service The World from the Dubai coastline, while four equally positioned islands within the development will function as transport and utility hubs for boats, yachts or ferries. Nakheel has integrated a series of waterways to enhance the overall design. The project will be a self-sustained city on water with emergency and medical services provided from the islands. All essential utilities such as electricity, sewage and water will also be provided. When completed in 2008, The World would have added a total of 232 km of new beachfront. Hamza Mustafa, General Manger - The World, Nakheel, UAE
