Alan is the Chief Executive of the RIBA. Based in London, he is responsible for running the peak chartered profession body for architects with 45,000 members in 115 countries around the world.
Trained as a chartered accountant he has held a wide variety of roles in Europe and Australia.
Prior to joining the RIBA in 2015 Alan spent 3 years as Chief Operating Officer at the Low Society, the membership and regulatory body for solicitors in England and Wales.
From 2009 until 2011 he was the Chief Operating Officer of the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, the national weather agency, based in Melbourne, Australia. As part of his responsibilities, Alan spent considerable time participating in a leading Australian Delegations at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
Alan is a member of the UK Creative Industries Council which advises the UK Government on major policy and initiatives for the UK’s creative industries which generate over £100 billion a year.
Alan is a fellow of three institutes – the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, the Institutes of Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He obtained a Bachelor degree in Economics from the University of York in the UK.
